"Though same sex marriage is legalized and both of us can be on our child's birth certificate, not all states will choose to recognize non-gestational parentage without adoption. Thus, we want to be certain that our rights to our child will never be taken away by completing a confirmatory or second parent adoption. This ensures that if something were to happen while traveling as a family, we would be entitled to joint decisions for our child in the eyes of the law. We will undergo second parent adoption for each child we have, which will be an expensive, but essential process for our growing family."
