"Some of you may know my journey with breastfeeding Carolina. For those who don't, I contracted mastitis twice within a month, the last time resulting in an abscess in my breast that required a minor surgical procedure called an incision & drainage after needle aspiration was unsuccessful. Because of the infection, attempts to numb the area were unsuccessful and I felt every cut and squeeze as they tried to clear out as much as they could. It unfortunately didn't end there as I then had to pack the open wound twice a day for weeks. However, the wound could not fully heal due to the constant flow of milk coming out it, ultimately resulting in me needing to medically dry up my supply to be able to heal completely. This really ended up being a blessing as I didn't realize how much I was mentally struggling until I wasn't stuck to a pump every 2.5hrs of the day. I am grateful that I had an oversupply that allowed me to continue feeding Carolina and that I would love to carry over to this baby.
