Even though both of our names will be on the birth certificate, this alone doesn’t provide complete protection as full legal parents. Without legal adoption, only the genetic parent has unquestioned rights, which could create issues in medical, legal, or other future situations. Adoption ensures Sydney has the same legal recognition and protections as I do.
