"College tuition alone is projected to cost nearly 500k for a private university by 2044. And that's if little guy decides not to go to an NYU, USC or Columbia and Bucknell like his parents. Both of us value education as a top priority and will be funding this tax-free 529 college fund through the state of NY as aggressively as possible for the next 18 years. If he were to receive a scholarship or decide that college wasn't for him, it can always be rolled over into a retirement account. I wish you could send gifts directly to the account, but they first must go through our personal accounts which we will then transfer to the 529 the moment he's born and receives his SS#.
